Religion and Democracy

Filed under: Uncategorized — genomewarrior @ 2:44 am

A country founded on the basis of religion, any kind of religion, cannot be a true democracy, and a democracy is the only political system that is sustainable. The form can evolve, but the basic philosophy cannot change. Religion (here, even political ideologies are considered religion) defeats the purpose of a democracy by excluding a chunk of the population from a political process simply on the basis of whether they subscribe to an ideology or not. No country that is based on such beliefs can call itself a democracy. And no such country can sustain itself.
